I just checked the bags I bought, it says diddly about aquarium use, it does say not for commercial use however.

how much did they charge you for that collosium? Petsmart/Petco charges insane prices for those

Oh, it was pricey, i got it at petsmart for $40....but love it and glad i got it:D

Only drawback I find so far is how incredibly fine the Crayola Play Sand is. It will stick to airbubbles and float.:irked:
But it looks great, and I did get a response back from the Crayola new products Group Administrator. She didn't come straight out and say it was safe, but definitely implied she thought it was, and after the treatment processes described and the reasons behind them, I'm inclined to think it is safe.
Good Day Charles-
Thank you for your interest in our Crayola PlaySand! My apologies for the delay in response, and I certainly hope you had an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.

I get several inquiries about aquarium safety year round, and I want to assure you the pigments or bonding agents are certified non-toxic through Duke University. Our sand, like typical beach sand, is a silica/quartz based product (silicon dioxide (SiO2). Unlike beach sand, our sand is screened and washed as well as undergoing dust collection processes throughout it's production.

However, no official animal testing has been done. With each of our initial inquiries we had done several follow-ups and to date not a single pet has been lost or fallen ill, so I assume that is safe for fish, aquatic animals, and reptiles. We even have a fish tank at our office and hermit crabs in our home! There are several fish keeper websites, of customers sharing their aquatic views of the sand as well as have images of customers using it in their tanks. If you would like I could forward you the links/sites. However if you encounter any problems please let us know immediately.

Additional Information:
-The sand in our bags is washed then screened before entering our production line. Absolutely no chemicals are used in washing!...we just use extremely hot water
-No anti-fungals are placed in the sand - that would be unsafe for digestion and lil kids take to risky chances. (To give you some insight into our process)

Currently we offer the colors: GREEN, BLUE, PINK, and PURPLE. As it is a new product we are still gaining feedback on product requests. We look forward to introducing further products with Crayola Play Sand in the future, and may later include additional colors, alternate package sizes, and craft ideas!

Any other questions feel free to contact me directly. Thank you!
