Sand as substrate

Heres a pm and my response.
I'm not sure of the brand, I'll check when i get home this weekend. I had the glass for a few years before actually setting the tank up, and i looked at a LOT of different substrates and sands. I bought the one I did because the granules were so large - almost but not quite small gravel.
I got it at home depot or lowes in VA several years ago.
The nice thing a bout pool filter sand is that it's graded - mostly all the same size. And it's rounded to prevent packing in the pool filter. This helps by preventing packing and by avoiding sharp edges for your scaleless diggers/sifters. Consider MTS for a stirring crew.
Check your local big box or pool supply shops and get a look at what's out there. This is a choice you'll have to live with, or spend the time/effort correcting. Get it right!

That pool quartz looks pretty cool too. What is the grain size in mm? Does its usual application require a graded product, or is the grain size very variable?
