Sand bed

the lobster will only eat the snail or crab if it has died. Lobsters are scavengers, and they will eat detritus and move sand for sure. Just make sure your tank is stable. And acclimate them good before dropping them in. Provide a good cave also. Someplace dark when the lights are on.

The guy I bought all my live rock from gave me a purple lobster, but his tank was a train wreck (covered in green hair algae). I could not keep it alive in mine unfortunately, the water params in both tanks were just too much for it :(. Looking back I should of acclimated it for a few days....I just did not have the time nor extra tank....it was free but lesson learned :(

With a 180 you can do mexican turbo's no problem, you can also do larger fancy hermits but stick to 1 species. Hermits kill hermits. I use Red legs, when they need a larger shell they'll go eat a margeritta snail and move in. Also I'd stear clear of sand sifting Sea Cucumbers they'll commit suicide via a powerhead long before they clean the sand. I've got 2 Conchs (Tiger, Fighting) cleaning my sandbed in my 210. The fighting conch has tripled his size in one year - neither seem all to affected by Nitrates.

Don't the painted rock lobsters get to be a little over 18" long?

The main problem with some bigger invertebrates is that you'll end up having to give them supplemental feeding because there's not enough detritus and algae for them to survive on otherwise in an aquarium your size.

They get to a max of 18inches, my tanks 24 inches wide and i'm even thinking of keeping one by itself. A place that i can get costprice fish in has a little one thats about 15cm big :D
I'm quite happy to get them supplemental feedings, it can't possibly take more than 5mins of my time to feed em directly.

Heard they eat small fish, and i'm wondering if it'll do alright with a dwarf lion. Cause i definitely want the lion not getting eaten at any point of time.
so they'll definitely be fine with some small hermits and snails? :D

well i just found out that they will take the chance to eat a dwarf lionfish. Some guy had 2 dwarfs get eaten by his lobster.
I know that lobsters are opportunistic, so i guess a lionfish that is perched on rock means Lunch.
Some guy also had snails and hermits being eaten by his lobster ._.
Its either a dwarf lionfish and a normal CUC or have a lobster which i'm really interested in with nothing else unless i can get some decent sized fish that look nice and won't get eaten by a 14 inch lobster ._.
