3d background is almost done so I now am looking for some sand. Has anyone tried sand blasting sand? Anyone think it would cause problems?
Please post what you guys use and where you got it, even if its not sand blasting sand I would like to know.

Thanks!

3m Estes sand. Its synthetic round sand and its safe. You can find it at paint supply stores. They use it for colored artwork on cement floors. I found it for $33 for 50 lbs. Probably wont find it that cheap.

My employees sand blast at my shop. This type of and is very fine, and sharp... Bet it would be like sand paper on a rays disc scratching and wounding the ray

There are a handful of thread on Black Diamond Blasting sand. Some people are skeptical, but I actually switched to it today and it seems fine for my Bichirs.

I rubbed it between my fingers alot while cleaning it and it wasn't that coarse to where I would think it would be a problem.

Like it says above there are many threads on this so a quick search would help over starting a new thread. I use it in all my tanks and haven't had a problem. Black diamond 20/40 mix is the stuff to use

I've used crushed marble sand, sandblasting sand, pool filter sand and the 3m color quartz(spectraquartz) sand. Color quartz s grade wins hands down. It is hard to find depending on where you are. There are types of sandblasting sand that is very round and between sand size and small pebble size.

I recently switched one of my tanks from pool filter sand (very light in color) to landscape leveling sand which I got from lowes. The sand is about twice the size and a medium brown color and was only like $4 for a 40 lb bag

Fishdog I was thinking the same thing home depot had some white leveling sand for the same price. That stuff was way to fine though.
