Sand Bottom? VERY CLOUDY

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
definitely should have cleared. if you rinse your sand for a good 10-15 minutes it should clear within the day. otherwise it shouldnt take longer than 2 days. bacterial bloom sounds right to me delgado. lots of organic matter in the sand before you rinse it. just let it chill, dont do a water change. let your bacteria colonize the tank before doing a water change.

i have an 18" redtail cat in there.

my water levels are fine

ph neutral

no ammonia.

but cloudy friggin water :angryfire

whats a bacteria bloom?

ill take some pics if it doesnt clear in another day or 2

plus i wanna show you how ****in dope the new sandbottom looks.

just wish it was clear!

for now its bedtime.

the reason your ammonia is zero is the reason your water is cloudy. the bacteria bloom is a sign that your nitrifying bacteria had a lot of ammonia to eat at first, causing the cloudy water because you had so much bacteria that it became noticeable. let your tank cycle. feed sparingly, dont change water yet. let the tank balance out. after a month or so start your regular water changes and you shouldnt have a problem anymnore

ok its been over a week. the water seems to have gotten milkier

im pretty sure its a bacterial bloom

is it going to clear on its own? or do i have to wait for it to cycle and then do a water change to get it clear?

OK lets try to get to the bottom of this problem..do you have a test kit? If not buy one today...we need to know...

what is the ammonia level ....

what is the nitrite level.....

what is the nitrate level...

After we know these things we can try to help clear the water.

heres what i did.

went and bought 2 packs of Bio-Spira (i have a 125). $30 driggin bucks for each!! i was told it would do the trick.

did a 25% water change because my redtail (18" whos the only one in there)hasnt been eating. I dont blame him. I had to clean up the **** in there. Stirred the sand up a bit. Just wanted to get it nice and tidy.

Filled my tank back up. Poured both packages in.

Let it sit last night.

This morning turned my light on.

Bam. MUUUUCH Better already!

i havent tested my levels yet though. and my dam redtail keeps stirring the sand bottom. I need to get rid of this guy stat.
