im in the process of reformatting my tank for a geo setup
i was wondering how thick the sand layer should be?
I have no idea if there is a recommended level or not but i don't want to get any bare patches on the bottom.

About an inch, maybe a bit more

If it's too deep, then apparently anaerobic pockets of instant death bacteria can form, which will probably develop into a giant black hole that will swallow all of Australia

So don't do that

mine is around 1-2" and never had any anerobic bacteria form...

try an inch for now, you can always add more

i got anerobic bacteria in my sand and now madagascar is gone

i know about the bacteria im more interested in keeping a good depth so they dont dig up to bare bottom or is in inevitable?
