you shouldnt use your main mech filter as a bio filter once you have to clean it out you risk back flushing all your bb im not sure how it works but i asume ur not using tank water to back flush the sand filter so ur probly using tap plugged in from a diftnt location on the sand filter to back flush? flushing your sand filter with tap water would probly kill off most your bb cleaning ur sand filter but ruining its bio load until it cycles agein just my input
