Sand hasn't cleared up at all

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yo, the pool filter sand is 4 bucks for 50lb at Home Depot. You could try that.

if you dont want to give up try using a coagulant such as API accuclear it is basically a mild glue that binds to the smallest particles, making them bigger so that a filter can collect them. I used this method a few times after I got cloudy water from sand, it works well. after 2 days I replaced the filter sponge and vacuumed the top of the sand where the rest of the particles collected.

I wont use playsand because it doesnt contain the trace elements and buffering capacity aragonite does.

And oh man haha I can't do that, this whole thing cost me around $100 for the sand hahaha

Wow I bought 2 50lb bags of playsand for $7 at homedepot for my 150g and worked great

when I put sand in my 180 I washed batches of it first with a hose in a bucket. I ran the hose until the lightest 25% was washed out of the bucket and kept the rest. You waste a bit of sand that way but can be guaranteed clear water. hope that helps even though it means cleaning the sand again.
p.s. took me about 2-3 hours

Here's what would work, get a small micron filter sock like 50micron, and get water pumping through it at a slow rate maybe a couple hundred gph and just keep cleaning the sock. When it doesn't need to be cleaned as offen, add water clarifier, like pond clarifier which will make gunk stick together. Worked for me, just need to find a way to move water through the sock.
