i used sand from a creek near my hose threw it in the tank with no fish and let it sit a few days testing it each day for everything make sure to stir it up and do water changes so any light sand gets sucked up looks nice
thats a good idea but i would be worried for parasites. I remember a long time ago when i had a hermit crab we used sand from a beach but we had to bake it in the oven for like 30 minutes to kill everything
If u want bright sand than use Mexico sand, gypsum & arkose stone sand are also good,it will be available with economic range.Arcose are too nice since it work for both sand or stone so enjoy it.
I like sand a lot, it seems to stay a lot cleaner. I use pool filter sand in some of my tanks but tried play sand in my 230g, I got it from home depot and it said already pre-rinsed, so i wanted to see how pre-rinsed it was, so i just added it the tank and started filling, there was really no cloudiness whatsoever. I like the looks of play sand a lot better.
