Im starting to gather up every thing to set up a 55g within the next week or two and im pretty sure im gonna set it up with sand. Im thinking of making it 1 part gravel and two part sand mix and planted. The only thing im scared of is the poison gas pockets that form in settled sand.

I read on another thread some where some that some people that feed their fish earth worms/nightcrawlers leave them in their tanks for weeks until the fish hunt them down.

Now heres the question, what do you guys think about keeping worms/nightcrawlers or some other burrowing creature to help with moving the sand around?

Hey
That's a good question. I'm not sure what would do the job, though, other than the necessary vaccumming of gravel/sand to remove such toxic wastes/gasess anyway, but do not do that with earthworms. They cannot live underwater.

Malaysian trumpet snails are very good substrate movers, constantly sifting around through the sand. Im actually getting some from WyldFya soon for the same purpose.

Cool, I was starting to wonder if I got the "Newb Question of the month" award. :grinno:

Would more common snales do the trick? i.e apple, mystery, ramshorn, ect...

As far as i know the MTS are the only snails i know of that burrow. What will u be putting in the tank? This could also effect the ability to keep the snails.
