Sand or gravel in my CA tank

That looks like "Super Naturals Amazon" gravel. If it is i just finished swapping out all of my sand in my ca tank for this and am really pleased with the result. I use 2 hob's for my tank and was tired of watching my fish swim around spitting sand in the intakes. I bought some spare aquaclear sponges and put them over the intake but it was a real eye sore for me. My opinion is the gravel looks nice and natural. I would leave it as is dude!

I dont use hardly any gravel in my tanks but when I do I like black gravel, it brings out the colors better. But all my tanks are in the garage so I dont have a 'show' tank. Your set up looks cool to me.

I will never use gravel again. Sand is the only substrate for me.

+1

your set-up looks great IMO, i used to have that color of gravel and it was nice but i must say that since i have switched to sand i love it, and i used PFS so it doesn get stirred up, when vacuuming i do suck up a little bit, but thats probably because i use just the hose without the wider tube end, if i used the wider gravel vac section then it would probably disperse the suction more and not suck the sand up as much.... but i also must say i took out all the gravel right before i moved the tank to my new house and then put sand in when setting it up, if i had just got done putting new gravel in i would not even be motivated AT ALL to get it out and put sand in. both processes are back breaking and will SUCK, so if it were me and i had just set up that tank i would leave it as is at least for a couple months until i was motivated again to switch it out lol, and if you do make sure to wash the sand really well before hand and you will have barely any clouding

that is one SWEET piece of driftwood:headbang2:headbang2

I to am interested in using sand instead of gravel, but im worried about HOB filters getting ruined. Your tank does look very nice! Love that piece of driftwood how much did that set you back?

if u do decide to get the pool sand, wash it off u could try taking out the gravel in the middle and replacing it with sand the light would reflect off the sand and it would look really nice
