hi there, i was just wondering if anyone could help me. I currently have a gravel based tank, and am interested in getting some angels... now: Do angels prefer sand or gravel... Im guessing sand is more of their natural... but u have seen happy angels in both gravel and sand... often when breeding comes up, they are in sand, is this coinscidence? thanks very much in advance...

Hey dude, you posted in teh wrong forum. But I'll help anyway. I don't think angels care about the substrate, because they don't spend much time at the bottom. Welcome to MFK!

ive tried both and for a whiel there i thought sand was better, but then it started getn dirty and because of the sand my tank started getn a yellow/brown algae growing on the glass!! IMO stick with gravel dude...just dun have it very thick!

Angels arent diggers so they dont care. They do like a planted tank so sand might work better for that.

I have always used gravel

IMO it is better to go bare bottom with breeding angels. Gravel is to course and the fry will get lost in it and die, as the parents won't go after them once they get into the gravel. Sand is alright, but is harder to keep water params in check. Bare bottom you can leave the parents to raise their young, and not have as many problems. Make sure to keep breeding angels seperated from other fish, as they are very aggressive when they breed and will often kill anything in their area. My old breeders killed my L200 Green phantom pleco for going to close to their eggs.
