hi guys so i just picked up a marble motoro last sunday and i currently have sand in my tank. The problem i have found with having him in sand is that he is constantly buried in it. I have never had this problem with my previous stingrays so i dont really know why he always buries himself. I was considering removing the sand from my tank so i wouldnt have this problem. i also figured it might be easier to maintain the tank without sand, but i dont want to stress him out since hes still relatively new and not give him anywhere to bury himself when he feels threatened. So just wanted to get some opinions from everybody to see if you guys think it would be ok to remove the sand. thanks.

I think it is better for the rays to keep them on sand both for the safe feeling it gives them to bury themselves and for the enrichment they get from digging through it.

Many people would argue for a bare bottom tank and there is no reason you can't keep rays successfully with a bare bottom tank it really is a matter of opinion.

That being said I would wait a while to remove it to avoid further stress to the new ray.

Also we will need some Pics :)

ok guys thanks for the replies sounds like i should keep the sand in for now, and johno i will be sure to snap some pics as soon as he starts coming out more ;)

Leave the sand imo

Time will tell but from my own experience brown rays bury and my blacks don't.

rays need sand and if you have it then remove it then it can have a big impact on sysem i know people who have removed it for a substrate change and the system has crashed

people with bare bottom tanks say they have it because they like the look or its easy to keep clean its not about what look nice or is easy its about whats best for the rays
