How hard is it to switch a tank that is and will be in use to sand? How hard is sand to take care of and how do you clean it?

it's not the hard...for me...but i drained out 1/2 of the tank, took all the fish out. took out all the gravel....(washed sand) and add it to the tank. rinsed the sand in the tank, drained 25% of the water....filled to the top waited intill the temp was right and added the fish. next day...did a 50% water change and it will be crystal clear. that's what i did to 2 of my 125gals. POOL FILTER SAND IS what i used....easier to clean...i'm bias with sand.

Sand looks beautiful just wondering how and how hard is it to maintain?

reletively easy to maintain, there are many options, if you have a canister filter just aim your outlets towards the sand and it will push all the waste to 1 end so u can just suck it up, or you can just glide your vac just above the sand and it should pick up only the waste, and minimal sand.

I love sand. I'm using pool filter sand in my 265 and its the easiest to clean substrate I've ever used. Like mcsx said, I use 2 koralia 4's to push all the waste to one end of the tank. That way, all the waste is in one spot and it's easy to vacuum up.

i like that!!! pool filter sand is the cheapest out of the three he mentioned. and it takes 10minutes to clean.

:iagree: It definately is the cheapest. I got 250lbs for about $30. If you got sand from a pet store It would cost $30 for 50lbs.
