Sand question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yep quick Crete brand.

I have black gravel in my qt tank and most of the fish, even once settled in stayed a bit darker than when I put them into the main display. They all color up a lot in there. Different fish will feel comfortable over different substrates but IMO , lighter substrates with less overall lighting has worked for me.

Put the sand in an old pillow case and wash/stir it with your hands until the water runs clear, also make sure its the same temp as your tank, sand can hold its temperatures very well. Then just add into your tank. For my SW setups I keep a minimum 2" deep sandbed. 2" isnt required unless you have fish that like to dig or burrow.
