The new sand in my 55gal has been in for the past 24 hours. Didn't really rinse the sand out REALLY well because I lack the proper wash basin. How much longer do you think it will be before it settles, and how much longer until you think I can turn the filters on?

What kinda sand do u have?
I have no other experience with sand but the caribsea sand, all I got to do was wash it then dump it in the tank turn on the filter and cyrstal clear from the get go and filter didn't suck it up or blow it if u properly place the inlet and return.

sand usually has a lot of clay in it too so that takes a really long time to settle out, your best bet is to d turn on the filter and start doing lots of water changes. The sand itself should settle out in a few hours.

My experience has been that if you don't wash the hell out of it to begin with, it will always be a cloudy water problem. Especially if you have digging fish!

Yea i agree the filter should be on because the sand doesn't screw it up. The filter does help because if you didnt wash the sand, then the filter will pick up the particles
