Sand Settling?

If your filters have been off for 24 hours which from your first post it sounds like they have a lot of your bacteria will be dead. As for clearing up the tank when I first put sand in mine it was super cloudy I bought a chemical that clears up water it will clump up the particles and speed the process up.

Turn on your filters!

And do a good water change every day if you want to speed up the process

stir up the sand in the fish tank and do a 100% water changes. repeat till water is clear and then turn filters on.

This is the best advice. I've always washed the crap out of the sand that I put in my tanks after I had to help a buddy out.

He was setting up a 55 that wouldn't settle out. We ended up setting up a siphon and basically washing the sand in the tank. We'd siphon out water from the top and use the hose to stir up the sand in the bottom. Took us hours...

Buckets are much easier :)

My experience has been that if you don't wash the hell out of it to begin with, it will always be a cloudy water problem. Especially if you have digging fish!

This is because of the large clay content in most commercial sands. Its actually the clay clouding your water not the sand itself.
