This is my first eperience with sand, so bear with me. I washed the stand quite thoroughly and put it in the tank quite a few hours ago. The tank is still very murky. Are tanks with sand substrate ever crystal clear like gravel tanks? It is only a 55 gallon with an AC110 being used as the filter. Let me know. Thx

The sand that everyone says they use from home depot. By looking at it you would think its clear, but it's on a double stand with my other tank right above it and there is a massive difference in clarity. I wasn't sure if it took a few days for the sand to settle or what was going on. Most people would think it looks clear, but I prefer the water to look like air.

yep... just give it time... if you have some filterfloss/polishing material you can throw that in the AC and start it up now that the larger bits of sand have settled...
but yer best bet is to just wait it out..
it took about 5 hours for my first sand tank to clear.. all depends how well you washed the sand before you put it in the tank

No... Keep your filter running. If you didn't wash the sand enough you may need to do a couple of water changes, but it will eventually clear.

I had the same problem. Let your filters run and use some sort of water conditioner. I used aqua clear and the water was crystal clear in about an hour.

I already performed an entire water change. I also put filter floss in the AC110. It still isn't as clear as my rock substrate tanks. I will give it a few days and a couple more water changes if need be. My wife said that she likes the look of sand, but it is noticeably murkier than my other tanks. I take pride in all of my other tanks being air clear. I like things to go smooth and simple. Maybe sand isn't for me. lol

I personally didn't use home depot sand.
Pool filter sand is what i used and i had no cloudiness/murkiness at all.
Not even for 2 mins.
I used a pillow case to rinse it as well, portions at a time.
