Stay far away from any aragonite substrate. This is for saltwater and possibly african cichlid tanks. Aragonite will most likely buffer your water to a ph of 8 or above.

thanks, I found more info on another site and it says it will keep the ph at 8.2!!

to tell the truth i hate the way sand messes up the filter impelers sticks to the rays disk making them look dusty and it harder to keep clean than a very small fine pebble gravel

if i was to do my tank again i would cover the whole tank base with a fine layer of silacon then stick a fine layer of gravel to it first the only put 1inch of gravel on top of that this will stop the tank from having bare bits of tank glass were the rays move the substrate down to bare bottom

i know so many people who have put sand then gone back to a very fine pebble gravel

I use Aqua-quartz pool filter sand for mine. You can get it at hardware stores or swimming pool supply stores.

does this stuff raise the ph or affect any other water peramiters -sp-......,
i currently use estes white sand....., but id like to get something that loooks a little more natural......, (more like sand)........, actually something that was the color of mud (brown) would be even better...., for me atleast. I like trying to recreate there natural environment..... any one with some sugestions..... thanks in advance...., by the way.., this forum is great...., I really like it and look forward to being apart of it......
