I have used store bought blue and white sand. I would like to use natural colored sand. I would like to take sone from a lake. I have got some ideas how to clean it. 1. boil the sand 2. Bleach or chlorine wait 24 hours for chlorine to evaporate then rinse very well. 3. Boil then run through R/O system to remove any polution. any feed back would be great.:wall:

pool filter sand looks very natural, IMO. If you really want to create a lake bed, get some mud and a few soda cans.

Here is a pic of my tank with PFS: (you can get the stuff at a pool supply store for $5-$10 for 50 lbs)

finding a pool supply store in minnesota might be a bit of an issue, though.
