Sand ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use the Quickrete play sand in my Axolotl tank. Here it's $3.50 for a 50lb bag. Not sure how much you'd need though.

100 pounds for a good 1-1 1/4" layer... might even get you a little more. I tend to splurge on substrates and go ahead and get the brands from the lfs.... so I doubt you really wanna hear what I have to say about that, because I usually go with Caribsea Tahitian moon, sugar fine white, or aragonite, depending on what kind of fish are going in there. I would be spending $50-150 on that tank for substrate.

50 lbs would do to cover the bottom, 150 would be a nice, really thick layer, 100 pounds is probably ideal, kinda depending on what kind of sand you're using(density).

I have no problem with 150$ For this project .
I have read that if you buy cheep sand you have to clean it ?
Can I add the sand with the fish in the tank ?
How long before it settles out ?

i used play sand i got from Ace 4.00 50lbs ... you just keep to your normal cleaning schedule and my tanks crystal clear ... it actually 2 about 2 1/2 day to be completely cleared up
