Sand?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Calcium sand is better because it doesnt matter if they ingest it. Desert sand would be okay but I would recommend having an area where they can eat off of the substrate so that they don't get an impaction.

i think both are not ideal for youngsters... but once the gecko gets bigger than u can use sand... i would recommend feeding them on somethin else that wont impact them.. prossibly in a cardboard box or shoe box

Calcium sand is a joke. Regular sand is fine for adults.

All my geckos are now adults, as juvis, i used paper towel but as they grew i switched to calcium sand. But i can get regular dessert sand for so much cheaper and get way more for the price im paying. I was looking it up and i read that its bull that calcium sand doesnt impact because it clumps when wet to just like regular sand, but that i should just make sure to use fine partical sand.
Thanks to everyone for ur comments.

I've been using play sand mixed with organic soil for 18 years and I've never had a problem. You can pick up a bag of play sand for like $4 bucks at Lowe's. Don't waste your money buying that crappy reptile sand from the chain stores.
