sand

I dont get that, if you are overstocked wouldnt having more surface area for the BB to adhere to be better since the bioload is more?

He can't do regular water changes, which means crap probably accumulates. Even though crap doesn't settle down into sand as much as it does into gravel, I think with his schedule of every two weeks combined with a half-full tank and his bio-load, he's better off with nothing.

He's got a decent sized eheim canister that he can put plenty of bio-media in to make up for it.

edit: under normal circumstances I'd say sand.

ok im debating on either getting sand or leaving my tank barebottom for easy maintance, what you all think? i can get quickrite silca sand from menards for under 5 buxs for 50# bag. so what you think? sand or leave barebottom? which is easier to maintain?

BAREBOTTOM is way easier to maintain...........Just keep the current running well so that all the debris that floats to the botom of the tank gets circulated..................

Wasn't aware, thats a lot better.

You should get one of THESE for in between your WC's. Just needs an airpump to run, no water leaves the tank.

If you do sand, I'd say don't give yourself more than an inch or so average depth. It'll keep these a little bit less complicated.

I don't understand.. When I have a legitimate question and start a thread, I get little to no replies. All you have to do is type sand and you get 2 pages. Most of your threads have contradicting info from you as well. Can someone please tell me how this works?
