sand

Although I agree that PFS is much easier to clean and better in that it's a bit less sharp than play sand, I don't say play sand is unusable. I have a 55 right now with play sand that's great. I rinsed it 2.5 gallons at a time in a 5 gallon bucket. Just turn the hose on full blast and let it go until it runs clear; then start shoving the hose down into the sand over and over again. Anything that washes out was too fine to bother with anyway. With a single 50 pound bag I ended up with about 2 1/2" of sand substrate that never clouded (even initially) and is constantly moved around by the pleco that's in the tank. I have had zero issues with it - although I still love my Colorquartz better that's in another tank.
