Sand?

I'm gettin a teacup ray and I wanna put sand at the bottom but will it mess up my filter? Or should I go bare tank?

Heavy sand is fine and won't get sucked into the filter. Pool filter sand is cheap and doesn't get sucked up. I recently got quartz sand and its fine as well.
