i like the way the peppered looks. does anyone use black with their fronts?

Go with Pool Filter Sand Grade 20. Looks pearly white and big enough that it doesnt fly around. Great for frontosas.

I'd go with the pool filter sand as well. My malawi's love it and enjoy picking it up and spitting it out.

I don't think it comes in the peppered look though

You can alwas put whatever substrate you like in the tank and put the crushed coral or whatever you want to use as a buffer in the canister filter or whatever filtering device you are using.

I would have to agree that there are some very cool sub-straights that you can buy. The peppered or black looks awesome, particularly with cichlids. One of the big reasons why I went with the pool filter media is price. It is a lot of bang for the buck. Price no object- I would have done darker.

i do know that live aragonite does come in peppered, im sure you can find regular arag that is peppered too.

im going with 4 bags of the peppered cichlid sand (below) and 2 bags of black sand to make it a little darker.
just got to find time to gut the tank
