lol you probably boiled the calcite out of it. I'm starting to think your water was really soft and caused a pH crash.

i have no idea about water sotness i dont know how to test it so some crushed coral will help since that adds calciem

most crushed coral also contains calcite which increases hardness and bumps up ph. But I think crushed coral isn't much good for bottom feeders

i will put some in my sump for the big tank as i have almost finished it and almost finished the stand

You can get net bags for filter media turtles couple of spoon fulls of coral , in bag in filter baskets works a treat , increases ph slowly so fish don't get major shock , also keep your eye on ammonia while this process is taking place don't let it get too high

my amonia was o.25 ppm about a month ago its at 0 now
