Saratoga jardini pond build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thats my plan

i also wanna try breeding freshwater prawns and yabbys

yabbies are pretty easy to breed in ponds - unless they can break through the water proofing (Cherax destructor: hint hint). Just throw them in with some pvc piping and they take care of the rest. Good food for your turtles aswell. Not sure if they breed in Sydney's winter though.

yea i was going to temp control then in a tank i know prawns can be breed in unheated conditions

Prawns can breed in colder temps , certain crayfish can breed rapidly in really cold waters we've got an invation of them in our waters in the UK mainly the rivers

are they the brown crayfish

Soz late reply been fishing smashed loads of Carp today :D , its the American signal crayfish , apparently they lay 250 eggs at time , there wrecking UK eco systems

pfffft 250 red claw the natives here lay around 3000 eggs and spawn 8 times each season but its hard to get them to spawn due to temperature needs at the right time of year so i wont heat the tank to get the right temp

Wow that is a lot , I think main prob in UK is there's not much that eats them pike and birds im guessing that's about it , think the main prob is that they eat salmon and trout eggs and plants they spawn in , kill off our native white crays with fungal disease, and collapse river banks burrowing to lay eggs ( they burrow tunnels 3ft +) some places are linning river banks with wire mesh to prevent this

yea thats the thing about crays thats anther hit for the wels catfish since your native crays are a problem for them
