How's it goin James you get to go eel fishing yest ? I had another good day carp fishing yest netted over 100lb altogether :D had to travel though the pond next to my house is evaporating quickly because of this weather its lost a couple of feet of water in two weeks , think were gona end up with 20lb + carp in a puddle at end of rd soon , not chance of catching them thell be so stressed they won't feed :(

if there in a puddle pick them up lol

Hahaha wish it was that easy its not quite a puddle mate , has lost a lot of water though its not good

Just popped into lfs at lunch time and there changing big display tank around , managed to bag myself a big mega mouth catfish for next to nothing :D picking it up after work (big smiles:D)

lucky

well my smaller silver perch has died and im fed up with things dying same condition i come home from school and bam dead but i know it was amonia poising so im getting some internal filters with power heads cause food and poo getting stuck on the bottom.

i doubt that little bit of food/fish waste is causing enough ammonia to be toxic to those fish. There may be an underlying issue behind it - and then the ammonia just finishes them off. It could be as simple as your jar stressing them out

Crap news that mate sorry to hear :( , are you sure about the ammonia was there any signs before hand cloudy eyes ? Burnt fins ? , check your catfishes barbles if there white and burnt at the ends that's a sign in my tank from ammonia spike as the cats are on bottom they usually get this first before other fish get effected , like Steve said it could be stress from tankmates if water parameters ain't too bad

no ther fish are fine my water is fine its ts that i come home and see a dead fish at the bottom and i check my water and bam like 2 ppm of amonia so i do water changes check it til its gone

2ppm that's pretty high even for some tough natives. I remember you had plants in your tank - did you use one of those plant specific substrates because some of them release ammonia into the tank over time. You could use an airstone to circulate the bottom a bit. But you might benifit from a small amount of zeolite. Put it in a filter bag and put it in sump or in front of filter outlet for about 24hrs.
