also, check the water you use for water changes. You could be in the same boat as me in regards to chloramine coming from the taps.

Since ive took the gravel out of my tank due ammonia problems ive always had a bag of zeolite in my canister filter its made a massive difference just needs replacing every few months
Oscars ain't too bad tbh mate they will hold there own don't get me wrong , but all the Oscars ive had have been pretty chilled out and when they do scrap they tend to just flare up and push with there mouths , so you don't get as much constant chasing and pecking like some cichlids , I had two 12" ones as a kid they were quality wet pets both hand fed for 8yr+
do you know how long zeolite absorbs ammonia before it transfers it back? Due to fear I only leave it in the tank for 1-2 days

My bag of zeolite says to replace every six weeks , and can be reused once soaked in two tablespoons of salt and rinsed off , says to add 25% of new to reused each time before use

yeah I always do the salt thing to. Good to know it can be in the tank for longer than a few days. It's awesome how it can be reused
Its clever stuff , mines in pretty big chunks so depending on what size may depend on how long so id doulbe check on your product packaging , mine stays in for ages though ive never had a prob with it returning ammonia
How's the fish doin guys ? My jags been in battle again new catfish wants his pipe , jars missing scale is half way there , lost a couple in my grow out but there's always some drama with three diff tanks
