i had a Petsmart GT a couple years ago that had a mixed gold(75)/silver(25) dorsal.
she was one mellow b*tch. nice pickup, looks like it's gonna be a male to me.

Thankyou very much for all the replies fishkeepers! I gotta say that this fish is the sweetest cichlid I've ever kept. Had a Frontosa back in the day that was at the top of the list but it got bumped off as soon as I had this Saum for like...5 minutes.
I've spent hours reading the threads on sexing. I'm thinking its a male based solely on the fins...pointed and alot of color. But there is so many things that keep popping up that make me unsure. Like head shape and I'd heard about spotting on the operculum being uncommon in males....I want a male but I gotta say that if this fish stays the same and it turns out to be a girl...I'm not gettin rid of it. But for right now I'm going to take everybodies word and call it a male because I'm tired of stressing over it. I'll keep posting pics every three or six months until I know without a doubt. Heres a few more from the other day. The fish measures out at 3-1/8'' as of now. Thanx again guys

Am I mistaken in saying that a possible way to sex Saums is to look at the dorsal and anal fins after the fish is over a couple inches fishkeepers? The female's will be stubby and less colorful and the males have fuller, longer and pointed fins with more color depending on diet and stress.

I know your question about the sex of your saum is for Scottfree, but if you can, take a picture from the flank of the fish giving us a profile shot. It will make IDing it alot easier and deffinate. Based on the pic you provided, I say its a female.
