Where are those pictures, Woofy? :D
I love Savannah's so much, I was lucky enough to find an adult running across a highway once, she was a sweetheart.
Ironically enough, my parents sold her because they thought she'd hurt me. Bought me a hamster that I was never able to touch and that bit THROUGH my finger, giving me a nasty infection.
Liz never even seemed phased by me, fall asleep right on my lap.

lol i am more scared of puting my hand in the hamster cage then any of my other pets. those are mean little suckers. For a hamster bight i would cry for a ball python bite i would just scream and curse lol. pics are coming , as soon as i know wher emy lovely husband decided to put my camera:nilly::nilly::irked::irked:

It doesn't have to stay wild and aggressive. The point he's making is that it has to gain your trust. When it sees you not as a threat, it won't do that to you. It's that simple.
oh i agree with you then
im not encouraging handling like u wud a puppy or anything
but i was thinking you were saying something completly different
my apologies varanio

TOTALLY agree with the rodent bite thing. When i worked at a pet store i hated touching those furry balls with teeth. I don't get why anyone would buy a hamster...of course i had them growing up but they really aren't fun. All they do is bite or run in their squeaky wheel all night. Customers were always baffled when i told them they are nocturnal so they are going to be especially unhappy at the time. I guess most think hamsters are little furry joys ready to play with their kids.

cant be serious that i dont want something that hates me thats capable of shredding my hand?
just because its a wild animal dosent mean its bad for it to be tamed for your benifit. the animal has rights and so do we.

why would i let this happen to me just because i want my animal to stay wild and aggresive?

Holy cow. I operate on the "if it bites, attacks me" theory will it hurt if the answer is yes I dont keep it .
Thats just my own thing. I know many here herps that can inflict a wound like that or worse.

I keep 4 feet under type mt king variety .

Did you need stitches ?

hamsters are mean and most are sold as pets thinking that they are cuddly, kid sticks his hand in once, and gets bit and thas it, it turns into a look at only pet until eventualy not looking turns into not feeding. It takes time to tame a hamster from th store because the breedrs they come from breed them take them away from mom stick thmn in a growout area with like 30 other hastrs aand ship them off, never handling them once...

its not hard to tame one from a store u have to be persistant. My male is a puppy, i can grab him anyone can grab him an he just sits and cuddles. My female is mean bu its becuase she has to deal with her kids. all the babies i have are handled from 3weeks old and on. i try to make thm as sweet as possible. my daughter just sits there in the hamster nursery and grabs one by one and holdig them and they crawl all over her. its important to socialize them whil they are small. thats what the petstore near me all have well mannered hammies from me ;) my male is so good, that he escapes often and runs around the house and al li have to do is sit on the floor and call him and eventually ill see him running to me from under something, right unto my hand. he knows his momma ;)

Hey Woofy here are some tips i looked up and found

Handling

If at all possible, avoid handling your new savannah monitor for several weeks, as any handling can induce stress, which can be extremely detrimental to your pet’s health. Once he has settled in and seems to be more relaxed in his new environment, spend some more time hanging around his enclosure, allowing him to get used to you.
After your savannah monitor seems used to your presence and is not hissing, biting, or tail lashing, use your hand and arm to scoop him up. Your arm should help to support the lizard as you are lifting him, and you should use your other hand to support his neck area. He should use his claws to hold onto your arm, which may cause you some pain. You can wear gloves to avoid this problem, but gloves can also make it difficult to hold him if he tries to escape.
When handling your savannah monitor, your grip should be firm yet gentle. Pay particular attention to supporting his neck, but do not squeeze it too tightly, as this can break the hyoid bones in his neck, causing strangulation. Also take care not to be rough on his hips, as hip luxation (dislocation of the hip) is a common problem.
