Thank you for the help snakeguy. I was thinking a small mouse once a week or as a treat for him. I will post a pics when I get him and while building the cage. How big should the adult tank be minimum? I plan on going at least a little bigger then the minimum. What light should be used? What % should the humidity be?

the cage should be roughly 6 x 2.5 x 3' tall. Also you do not need UV for these guys so a regular household bulb will do fine as long as it gets hot enough. You will need to feed him more than just a mouse once a week, if you do this health problems will start to emerge. Vary the diet more and feed with more frequency like 2-4 times a week.

I didn't mean that that was the only thing I was feeding I meant as rodents go that was what I will feed him. The cage I plan on building I figured will be 5'Wx4'Lx3'T. I plan on crickets, meal worms, and earthworms being the main diet when small. Then fisha nd a mouse once a week/as a treat.

Any insects I should avoid? Also I saw pictures of them eating crayfish, should that me something as a treat type of thing also?
do not feed them any WC instects or othe bugs. there could be pesticides and things on them that might hurt your monitor. Also, I am sure you could feed crayfish but they are a bit $$$ to be honest.

I get all fish/water inverts either free or with a 20-25% discount. My LFS owner is pretty much family. I knew it would cost some money so it would be something I would do once or twice a month. I knew about WC things. I don't feed any WC things to my animals. Thanks again for your help.

Generally agreed but I would not keep an adult sav in a 6x2.5x3 enclosure. Yes you might get lucky and have a small one, but my old male was 4' and thick, I kept him in a 6x3 Vision cage temporarily while I changed his cage doors and he seemed very cramped in there. I know there are people keeping and even breeding 4.5' Argentine tegus in the big Visions, but IMO 8x4 footprint is minimum for a sav.
