The cage I planned on building will be a temp cage in till I he out grows it by the I will have the room for the adult cage. I do see him outgrowing it in less then a year. But by then I will have a 55 90 and a custom build cage out of my room so the a 8'Lx5'Wx4'T will fit.
Would not be hard, It is the same way as you do with a tank with a screen lid. My room being 79-85* normally would also help the process. The bin would only be for a day or to anyways. And if it does start to melt I have a spare 20L which would only be used as a back up plan.
You might know this but I am going to mention that basking temp is very different from air temp. Having the basking spot 130 is waaay different than having the air temp to be 130. Just stack flat rocks under your heat source until you get the temps you need. Use a temperature gun preferably or a digital probe also works at measuring the temperature. For example the air temp in my leopard gecko tank on the wram side is like 89 but there are some spots on the sand and rocks that get into the upper 90's. Thermoregulation(sp?) is very important to make sure the hot side is hot and the cool side is cool.
Good for you asking plenty of questions BEFORE you buy. Make sure you read plenty of carehseets.
I will have some rocks for him to bask on. I have read a lot of care sheets before I even knew I had the chance to get one. I thought they were interesting and wanted to own one. Just didn't plan on it this soon. But I am just making sure I have the right info from people who have these or know a lot about them. Not all care sheets are correct which is why I am doing this.
For the basking spot...if you've got a plan to keep the air temp right just use halogen spots for the basking spot. You will get a nice hot spot, and you can raise/lower it as you like to get it hotter or cooler. Plus the halogen spot will concentrate the heat so you're not worried about melting your rubbermaid.
I assume you're comfortable building since your plan is to build the cage...try googline Retes stacks. You should see some examples, but basically you're giving your monitor different basking levels, the normal basking spot plus warm hide-type spots underneath.
If the 5x4 cage is temp it should do for awhile. As he grows you'll see if he's cramped or not. Problem with a nearly square cage is you can't really do a hot end/cool end type of deal, but it's a lot of space and he should be OK there until he's 3' or so.

That is how I want to do it but with my measurements and a 1.3' of wood bellow the Plexiglas glass so the dirt don't fall out when I the door and will have a sliding bolt lock with an lock on that so no one can open it but me. So I don't have a sister killing him if he bites her.

You have put alot of time into research why do you want a savannah over the more attractive and active species? Takes alot of roaches and chicks to feel up a 3ft sav.
Do not use screen as the plan shows up above. Monitors are a blast for sure. Just take alot of time, food, and eletricity.
I didn't realized it used a screen. I was planning on just drilling holes for hair along the top of the side. I find the Savannah's attractive and they seam interesting. Every animal is just in their own way. Just because it is not active don't mean anything to me. I have the devotion and motivation to do as needed to keep them healthy.
