According to Brewster (1986), H. brevis has the thickest average size mass of all African tiger fish. In other words, pound for pound, it's the strongest and thickest.

Wanna see one at over two feet?

That's the only (known) big one in the history of the hobby. I plan to rectify that.

Interestingly enough, that fish got to be about the same size as the current world record fish in only five years. No other species of ATF even approaches world record size in an aquarium, let alone that quickly. This piece of info combined with the lack of angling that is done for this species (thanks to their being located in less than peaceful countries) indicates to me that the current 28 pound world record may in fact be quite a bit smaller than this species is capable of attaining.

That thing is beastly! I've never seen an ATF look that sinister. The big gatf's I've seen have the gnarly huge teeth but they don't look like they really wanna kill anything whereas that batf looks like all it wants to do is kill and kill and kill! I love it!

Have you notice how chill the brevis compare to other ATF. I finally did a water change the brevis just went to the opposite side of the tank when I was vacuuming the gravels out, no head bashing on the glass or trying to come up the side of glass and out the tank. I also use a long stick to smooth and level the gravel back it normal shape when I'm done. The whole step by step way I do my water change had me worry that it was going to scare the **** out of him and cause injury or the water change alone was going to kill him because the poor condition.

idk but my Brevis was the first to hit pellets out of my other ATF's

Lucky. lol

I've noticed that too. Every other ATF I've had of every other species has been a complete spaz. Billy is chill and very confident. He's also the only fish I've ever kept to make me bleed. He is NOT afraid.

Hey guys I'm going to derail this thread for a second and ask how the h*ll do you get rid of Malaysian trumpet snails? My silver $$$ were eating the smaller snails and keeping off the glass and in the gravels. But since I moved the silver $$$ because it was hard to get food to the brevis the snail are everywhere now. Some said put a few copper pennys.

Let them stay, they don't do harm and they eat uneaten food and poop.
I agree, but have you ever seen what hundreds of MTN looking like on the glass?
I dnt think a few dozen assassin snails could take care the MTN problem I got.

From what I've heard, assassin snails do actually take a whole bunch of them out. More than you'd think.

Also, feeding the tank every other day or so will help since they won't have the leftover uneaten food and waste to eat. I had a huge problem in my elongatus tank, and cutting back to feeding him twice a week pretty much eliminated them within a month or two.

You can manually control it by rubber banding a lettuce leaf to a rock overnight then taking it out in the morning. The snails will find it and just sit on it throughout the night and in the morning it would be covered in them. That's how I used to do it and everytime it gets outta control, just do it again.
