Save apple wood

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I normally cut the branch with a wood saw. I try to make the cut to the back of the branch, not the side I want showing in the display.
If the branches are truly dead and dry,the dust from the cut will be dry dust.
If the wood is still green inside you will get a wet dust.
The branch will also loose any flexibility and become more rigid and brittle.
Depending other size of the branch, drying can take up to a year if left to the elements.

So I could speed up the Drying then by putting it in the house with a heater blowing on it then?

Here's some people drying green wood to dry lumber. It's NOT exactly the same, but it will give you a general idea of the process. Pretty much exactly as Stanzzzz7 described.

Heat, low humidity, time.

Anyway, it might have some hints so you don't delay your process or inhibit success.

Iirc, a lot of the wood pieces people buy were collected from or intentionally stored in desert or dry landscapes.

its bone dry, if green I would let season.
