IN YOUR HEAD
just saved a rbpacu...it is i a 180gal for now...what is the best food for them...it has been eatting shrimp, fish fillets, and minnows, since i have had it...witch has been 4 days...it is about 8" now and seems to be missing teeth and the nose is still tore up...it had a skin rotting problem before i got it and is almost 100% now...it is very skittish, is this normal or will it out grow this? and would a 10'x5'x3' be good for a final home?

Feed it pellets, veggies, fruit such as grapes. I don' t recommend feeding them live food. The only pacus I've heard of that killed tank mates were those who were fed feeders. Let them hunt and kill carrots, instead.
Unfortunately, pacus are skittish. Ours have very vivid imaginations. Big boys as they are, they will freak out and go berserk running away from some imagined predator. Slamming into a tank wall or tank lid brings them back to their senses. They slam so hard, I used to be afraid they'd break the tank. Fortunately, it's an acrylic tank.

A 10' x 5' x 3' will make a great home for your pacu. Our 300 gallon tank is too small, and we're in the process right now of upgrading to a large tank.

Here are old videos of our pacu enjoying a carrot and scarfing down potato slices.

Algae wafers and cichlid pellets work too.

That sounds like a great tank plan. The 180 will work for at least another 6-8 months though, it doesn't need the new tank tomorrow, but it WILL be needed before next year.

here are some pics of it, new friends, and tank...you can see the skin is almost all back and the aro is 22" for size ref. and also as you can see his friends will need a bigger home before it will...also can they be sexed? if so male or female?

There are no reliable ways to sex them. He's a cutie, you are going to love having him.

That's a spectacular mix in that tank. I am glad to hear a bigger on is in the works, wow is it going to be beautiful!

thanx, i had a rtc and a rtcxtsn for this tank also but they died after the tank crashed...after i finish the big tank i may get some more and maybe another pacu...at first their teeth creeped me out they reminded me of old man teeth...but now i look at it and remember my rbpiranha tring to bite me over and over...lol

with rbpacus i am mixed up...cause i thought blacks were the big ones and the rbs stayed smaller...but after reading i have seen 12"-36" for a "max" size...is the 3' mark realistic or is it just capible of getting that big? what is average size for them?...planning numbers in final tank so average would be good to plan off of...
