Hey guys I have adopted another orphaned baby bird, this time it's a blue jay! My cat was stalking the poor little guy, he fell or was kicked out of the nest. I saw bootsie stalking something then I heard him so I threw some gloves on and went to it's rescue. After I saved him and decided he was unharmed I left him where he had fell to give his parents a chance to find him, hours passed and no sign of mommy or daddy bird and it was almost pitch black out. So I put him in an old bird cage for the night, with plenty of soft bedding we have a heat lamp set up so he doesn't get cold. It's an older chick that can somewhat fly so I dont know if it can eat solid food or not (crickets or worms) Also how would I feed the little guy? He wouldn't eat when i presented him with a worm, so I really don't what to do this but if it comes down to it how would I force feed him? Thanks guys I'll get a pic up soon!

good for you..hope it will do okay

stuff ive found says to crush small pieces of worm, crockets etc as this is likely what a mother feeds the chicks. no bread, milk or anything dripping with liquid, also nothing not found in their natural diet. However, upon looking for info I came across many posts stating that what you are doing is actually illegal and its not just a state dependant crime apparently it is federal.
almost everything ive found stated to find your local wildlife shelter or speak to a vet for a list of places.

Unless you have all day and late evening to feed the bird, take it to a wildlife rehabilitation canter. If you are not willing or able to feed every 1hr and 30 minutes to 2 hours, take it to the center.

The birds health will decline very quickly without food. Gently pry open the beak, with food ready to push in.

You are going to have to force feed crushed plain oatmeal and chopped insects(worms, crickets, grasshoppers and whatever else you can find that is not poisonous and gives off a bad taste)You will have to add a little warm water with the food to help it go down.

You also need to go to your pet store and tell them you need some liquid vitamins for a baby bird that you are hand raising. Mix this with the food that you are giving, go by the directions as to how much to feed.

Try to feed off a spoon, if that doesn't work, the pet store has a feeder, might be a syringe without the needle. Ask the person in the bird section what the use.

IF you can get the bird to eat, add bird seed to the mixed up bugs, warm water, oatmeal and vitamins in 3-4 weeks. Make sure it is small seeds no medium to large seeds, the bird may choke. Be very careful not to get food in the nostrils. Clean the the bird of food and water during and after feeding.

Here is a link for you to find a wildlife rehabilitaion center or person in your state, I doubled checked you state and you have many:

LET ME KNOW HOW THE BIRD IS DOING OR IF YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE IT TO ONE OF THE CENTERS. THANKS.

I took the little guy to our local wildlife rehab center. I was able to force feed it some worm and he ate it but I felt bad for the little guy. Before I left I put him back out by where he was originally found to give his parents a chance to take care of him before I took him away. They didnt show so he is now in the hands of people who know what they are doing:D
