Saw a sad RTC today ar the LFS (pics) :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i got my rtc at feeder size with only one eye he is now 18in+ and healthy as could be the only effect ive noticed is if you tap on the tank he will turn to look at you with his one good eye and that just adds to his awsome personality

I had a blind ARTC. When I first bought it, it was the most active guy swimming all over the place. It was super small and being black and VERY active, I never got too close of a look at him. As he got bigger, I realized that he had no eyes. But it was still able to detect feeders and I admit, I used it for cycling new tanks and stuff because I didn't want a deformed fish. But it grew on me and it became one of my favorites. I gave him a tank to himself. Unfortunately, it died while I was away on a 3 month externship :(

catfish dont really need eyes anyways..they have whiskers as feelers..kinda like blindman and his cane

Mines do not seem to use eyes. They always use their whiskers to look for food by vibrating it in front of them. sometimes i wonder even how effective is that. They wave it in front of them BUT will only grab food if the whisker actually touches it hehehehe sometimes they vibrate it around 2" fron the food without taking it ... if a small fish is unfortunate to be touched by vibrating whisker, it is sucked in immediately.

PS: one of my RTCs is missing three lower whiskers ... does not seem to bother him but i am somewhat dissapointed with the shop keeper for selling it to me (granted he gave a special price for the pair ... one was complete another one minus 3 whiskers .... there is always a catch).

I was at the LFS today and came across this RTC...I was like "hmm" theres something weird about this guy...when i took a closer look i realized that either he was borned without eyes or was brutally attacked by some fish who took out his eyes...the reason i was led to believe that maybe he was borned without eyes was that the skin was neatly pulled over the area where the eyes would be and it looks like bone under the skin.... there was no signs of being attacked..but i really dont know...I apologize for the crappy pictures but my phone was all i had......so sad hes about 9" already....

Which lfs was this at bro?

I'd take him too, and would probably be the most cared.
He doesn't look to have that "smiley" face without his eyes.
