the acrylic stick helped with my lion....btw fleshy do you hand feed your lion with hand completely in the water? I hold a silver side and have the silverside's head in the water and the lion takes it from thier lol.....the eel has been coming up now.

I tried the stick idea, but yeah it seems too intimidating, he just swims away.....I then tried just dropping the piece of shrimp in front of him and he takes it sometimes. I couldn´t help myself though and put in a convict fry and as soon as the lion saw it he went on the hunt....but I guess thats not the best idea so no more of that.
Quick question...lions don´t really like too much current do they? I notice he hides in varios holes in the rock when the koralia is on, but if I turn it off he come out to see whats going on

With this most recent lion, I used a thin wooden shishkabob stick. He seemed interested...but never struck.

In the end getting the smell right for him was bigger than anything else. He was hesitant about all other foods till I got the market shrimp in there, and he just hit that instantly. Had a smell that was powerful enough to trigger a feeding reaction I think.

My first lion was in a sps reef tank and I had to get food down to the cave which he was hiding in. So yes, whole hand/arm submerged. The first couple times you try doing this, he is going to turn his snout down, and give you some defensive posturing with his venomous fins. BE CAREFUL! There is no point risking injury to yourself. I have just dropped the food as close to their snout as I have felt like coming.

After doing this a couple times, they will learn that people = food, and will probably hang out at or near the surface as close to you or whoever else is in the room as they can get.

My first lion was put into a 75g with 3x koralia 4's...talk about flow.

Because of how big their fins are, they are not the most graceful of swimmers, and it makes it difficult I have to imagine for them to swim into the flow. Mine got used to it eventually.

If he is taking some food, he will be fine. Dont force the issue. Just keep trying stuff, and eventually he will find his full blow appetite. A lion that doesnt eat to the point of explosion, is not a healthy lion. Yours will get to that point once he settles in I imagine.

Lions predatory behavior can be fascinating to watch. I love how they trap fish with their large pectoral fins.

So he is now finally up and about swimming all over the tank, as soon as I get near and if he is hungry comes straight towards me. This was quicker than I though. Here is a quick video of him, its a bit dark but the speed in the attack is simply spectacular....hope it works

Lionfish are great fish for the pet trade. Now we just need to start collecting/only buying atlantic/gulf lionfish. Good for the environment.

Easy to feed, very personable. Great fish.
