After work last night I went to my LFS to get some FD Red Shrimp for my fish. I walked over to the tanks and in the top tank that was roughly 15g, were two O's, a Red and an albino Red, with a case of HITH so bad that it looked like someone had taken a screwdriver and repeatedly stabbed them with it. I was entirely appauled. The kicker is that they were selling them for $15 a piece with a little tag under it that said "Buy one get the second half off!". Needless to say, this place is full of idiots. Because while standing in awe at these horribly treated fish, an employee was explaining to a lady that the only thing that gouramis are compatible with are other gouramis. :irked:

But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. They are currently hiring second shift and I think if I got this job, I could clean up their fish collection a bit. I mean they've got one Tex and two Sveni pikes with about 16 Africans. I'm not nearly as educated as some of the people on here, but I know enough to group and price fish correctly, not to mention give people good advice on how to keep fish.

i agree one store near me has an oscar and a red devil with hith so bad that it looks like half of the rd face is missing and the ocsars eye looks like it is not even attached to his face, when i said something about it they say that they have to take every fish that some one brings in, store policy

good luck to you getting the job.. looks like they need you....

You know if you take that job, you're going to be bringing home a fish every week, right? :D Just be prepared!

i walked into petsmart the other day, and picked up an electric blue ahli hap... is it weird that I actually enjoyed having the employee ask me "now have you ever had african cichlids before"... because I let him give me his explanations as for why it may not be the best choice in fish... and then tore him up with my much more vast knowledge base haha

lolz

haha yes felt same way when i went in to get some fry food and the person asked, "well what types of fish are you going to keep in the tank" and after i said central/south americans he very authoritatively said "well make sure you dont have the temp above 80, that would be the very highest you should go but dont even go that high" i was nice and just said thanks without even asking him why he thought so with such conviction without even knowing the exact types of fish im stocking LOL
