yes I'm sure

the fish will not grow in length but still get very wide like a normal kong ming

if you look at some real SBKM then its easy to see it has had some kind of human messing with it to stay that football shape

its not easy to see on this km as its not a real sbkm

Are you saying that a true SBKM is bred that way, and this fish has had its back broken to mimick a SBKM?

I'm still not understanding how a broken back could cause such a huge deformity without resulting in paralysis. The reason I say is that I've seen breeding accomplish a very similar deformity that you see in the short bodied fish that you get in in dogs such as the the French Bulldog. If you look at an x-ray of, you see a spine that upon first glance does in fact look like it should be broken. There is a very abrupt v-shape between the cervical vertebrae and the thoracic vertebrae of the that gives this dog its look. I remember being shocked the first time I saw this at the dramatic ability to breed this severe deformity of the vertebral column without affecting the spinal cord itself. Should this dramatic v-shape happen to shorten the body not via a genetic basis, it would completely paralyze the animal.

It is a bred body form...not from human "surgery"...how do you think they make ryukin goldfish?

^^ :)
Breaking spines seems like a completely false rumor to me, but I am curious as to what it is based upon. Are there people breaking fish's backs to attempt to mimic this, or did someone mention that it LOOKED like it was broken only to have a bunch of people misinterpret this as actually broken.

I guess u are right.. as there is alot of stock of this little cute guy... I also heard the breaking part and let them heal. It just that I got mine really small and no scar at all...look healthy to me...I think it a deform breed with deform something like that..so many short body in the market..

balloon ram..SB green terror...SB albino birchr..

it is a human thing

you can believe what you want if it makes you feel better about buying this kind of fish

i don't know how they do it like i don't know how they cut parrot fish tails off with out them growing back

many things in Asia happen with fish just to make money

:D Just like I keep telling people that I'm going to stomp on my bichir head to make it a spoonhead, but I've not done such thing! :grinno:

it was common knowledge that SBKM had their backs broken or a part removed

people have just chosen to ignore it

As both a fish keeper and someone who has some background and strong interest in medical and biological fields, I would very much appreciate if you could please tell us where you got this information or if have some explanation of how this was supposedly done. I would be truly interested in that information so that, if indeed this is somehow being done, we can all be better informed. I disagree with with a lot of what people do to animals for their own amusement, and I think that it is very important that the information about the plight of these creatures is correct and verifiable. Keeping the truth to the horrible stories helps to eliminate the people's ability to dismiss the true suffering as rumor. So please, if you do have any information to actually prove this, I sure everyone would like to hear to be able to step to help prevent any suffering.

im sorry i dont have any prove

but over the last few years it has been hushed up how this fish has been made as its now a craze fish in Asia

Well for me I think it is just deform breed with deform.. It not like they will break every SBKM... there is quite alot of stock in LFS all over SG...Maybe 1 or 2 I might be believe in breaking the back but not in a school with them swimming happily.

It like the so call badman sting ray. say to be cut out shape to form a badman sign so it will be rare or popular but I read somewhere online it is a kind of deform.

But I might be wrong haha
