Trout Island
So I recently got my hands on a very nice fish. However, everytime I walk by the tank, it freaks out and swims out of sight as fast as possible...splashing water most of the time. I guess my question would be is there a way to calm it down? I just hate seeing it freak out.

Its a Gold Parachromis Motaguense

What I have always done with some success is running only one of my two lights for a few days while it acclimates. Also hanging plants from top center piece helps. Is it feeding ?

Spend more time in front of the tank. Maybe even with tank lights out for a week or so.

Can try those things. And no its not eating. Not even feeders

do you know what it was eating before you bought it? always try that. feeders aren't good. def try to turn the lights out.

Well it was eating hikari sinking pelets. I went to 2 different shops today and they didnt have them, so I figured it would at least eat a feeder or 2 and then I could ween it on to whatever I wanted. And my lights are on during the day and out at nite

How long have you have it. Like a week, less.

When I get new fish, from Petsmart or where ever, I keep the light off for a week. The room their in has 4 windows with crappy curtains so they get plenty of natural light, all of my fish prefer this, compared to light bulbs shining bright as hell in their tank. I also don't feed for a few days, they can live quite a while with no food.

Just let him get used to his new tank. Don't just walk in the room just to stare at him. Just go on as usual, he will get used to you feeding other fish and etc., and will soon feel at home and start eating like a champ.:)
