Scared of acrylic...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm going to hit up my LFS and see what they can get in glass tanks.

So I planning out a large tank build for my new house. I have been looking for something around 300 gallons. Now should I go with glass or acrylic? I know glass is crazy heavy, but I am worried about scratches. I cannot deal with scratches in my tanks. I am to the point where I will not purchase a used tank even. I know that is crazy, but it just bugs me. Who has acrylic tanks? Am I the only one that feels like this? I am looking at ordering from fishtanksdirect.com or glasscages.com. Is acrylic really the way to go? Thanks!

You already answered your question....

If you can't deal with scratches, glass is the only option.

A little off topic, but im curious, which of the two is thr better insulator - temperature wise?

I just wanna add that I am also scared of acrylic. At this very moment im in the thick of Building a diy trickle tower for my sump out of 1/4" acrylic. Its very difficult to work with.

Which weld on product are you using for the seams?

Just remember acrylic scratches easier, but glass still scratches. Getting them out of acrylic is relatively easy. Glass no so much....

Food for thought.

Actually just using some #8 nylon machine screws and some clear corner stock

No solvents this time. I didnt get a good finish on my edges on the 1/4" like I have in the past on thinner acrylic
