Scared of my vacation

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I too have faced similar situation with my xb golden.
I went on vacation for 1 week, asked y friend to take care of it.
He was adviced to give food daily twice.
My aro got sick, was stressed too.
Body bent.
Took me a month to recover him completely.
I would advice to give food in every 3 days once, that too only 10 hikari pellets, during vacation.

Haha yeah I told my sister to only feed 7 pellets but when she got spoked she dropped a lot in, but my sister was at least nice enough to fish out the excess. Did a 2 really good water changes and got all the leftover food water is looking good and my aro is happy! Right now it's 8-9 inches, grew 2-3 inches in a month so I'm happy, going to swap it into my 240 once it gets to 15 inches because then it won't be too hard to transfer and it will be good for almost a year until I need to transfer it again. My final tank is being built as we speak really excited to see it, it's 96 x 36 x 24, 360 gallons thinking of stocking either rays or bichirs with the aro

So I'm on vacation in new Brunswick which is fun and a good break from the city in Ontario. But I'm just praying to god that my sister actually remembers to feed my aro and turn my lights off because I don't want to come back to an empty tank Haha. Did a waste change before I left and I'm gone for 2 weeks hopefully he'll be ok

Lights are easy put them on a timer they are cheap to buy

I would be more worried that who ever feeds them closes the lid and cover glasses properly

A aro can go a long time without food so your sis only needs to feed every 3-4 days

Worth thing to do is give a whole package of food to some1 inexperience to feed. They will over feed and pollute the water.

Like what people say, some fish can go days, weeks or months without eating depending on their size.

I usually bulk them up a week or two before the trip, then two before trip, i starve them and on the day of departure, i do a large water change.

No feeding at all. Gone for ten days with no issues

Birchirs go well with arowana, for me if my trip is more than 2 weeks, i will usually feed them before any big water change and will still prefer to do one depending on the water parameters to avoid stressing them out. if you're using pellets you may want to try out auto feeders.
