So i just put sand into my JD aquarium and now hes scared of it. Lol is this normal? Ive never seen anything like this he hovers at the top of the tank just kinda staring at the sand. Should i be worried? Ive turned off all the lights in the tank and the room so he can calm down.

While I'd never consider a JD a community fish, in nature they are constantly surrounded by dither fish, which they watch to judge presence or absence of danger, and are always close to caves to dash into.
A JD alone in a tank, with only new sand, is bound to be paranoid.

Did you add the sand to the tank while the fish was in there?

I figured not, but you won't know until you ask.

The likely outcome of adding sand while fish are present is gill damage from sucking in sand.

I agree it is just likely stressed out by the change in tank decor. Keep the lights out for a few days and you might consider some dithers.
