Sooooooo...
Everytime I go near my tank or try to just watch my fish they cower in fear in their hiding places. I cannot even see parts of them. I have had them for a few months now, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. The only time they come out is when they seem hungrier than normal. When I do water changes I take them out and put them in a bucket in a dark room. Is this correct? Should I just leave them in there? Seems like cleaning the gravel would be too loud for them. Help!!!

will its natural that fish will hide form you.
thay haven't gotten a custom to you yet thay will. it takes some more time

i don't know what species are you keeping..but some are more shy than others, sometimes adding more hidding places makes them feel more comfortable and safe or keeping many of one species helps too.

why are you taking them out of the take to do water changes?
you should be able to do that without harming them at all....hubby used to nearly drain the tank...leaving just inches in a seventy gallon when he did changes...
this might be part of your problem...they fear when you near the tank your going to yank them out!....

ohh yes i forgget to give and opinion over the water changes.. in the water changes you can siphon the dirty and food leftovers, also drain a part of the water with the fish in the tank..

Oh, also, not sure on exact species. Metriaclima, I believe a 'red jacob', an ice blue cichlid and an OB cichlid.

Don't have the kenyi, too mean to the rest of the fish

Can't get a picture of the jacob. He never comes out. He is really small and gets picked on very readily.

is the jf the only aulonocara? ya got no females in the tank? just the four??????
eh....sometimes ya just got to give those guys something else to think about!...or elsewise they WILL beat each other up just out of boredom!....some think if you put trios in they will be more aggressive, maybe a bit, but then they are so preoccupied with dancing, they soon forget the other males if the others keep their distance from his territory.....

eh maybe i havent had enough coffee yet....but isnt this a kenyi in this last shot??

oh boy- i bet they are traumatized by being yanked out of the tank for waterchanges! lol.. :nilly: just leave them in there--they will be fine with you suctioning, and will just stay away from where you are working in the tank..

beautiful fish! like someone stated, get more of the same kind, and i bet youll see different behaviors!

Yeah, it's a kenyi in the pic, but I just got rid of it a couple days ago. If you guys know Mystus Redtail, he's who got it.
Now, a question. So, I have all these different fish in there, which I love, but what females do I get? I only have a 28 gallon tank. I don't want to get rid of the different fish and cannot afford another tank.
