Scarlet Pleco cost guess

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it depends on whos buying.
me personally, i would be willing to pay more for fish that i know are bred by specialists or hobbyists. i paid $35/fish for my first group of roselines 5 years back. those were wild fish. i would still be willing to pay $35/fish for quality bred roselines. which i did recently. fish farm stuff for the most part is crap. ALMOST nothing good can come out of mass produced livestock. thats why most breeders would prefer to purchase f0, f1, or f2 fish WITH a known location. the farther you go down the line, the more chances of you not knowing what is in the gene pool.

To each his own, I don't really likie "wild caught" for a few reasons. Fish are more prone to disease more expensive more touchy in general. My roselines from fish farms have just as much color as my LFS that claims wild caught. No proof that the fish are really wild caught either.

For me, wild caught or not heck for 6.99 vs 30 bucks.. id go with 6.99, again just my opinion. Beautiful fish tho.

As far as scarlet price going up in the future, I dont think there is enough breeder. From what i have read there are more people successfully breeding L46 but the price has not gone down yet. I have not heard any local in my area that is trying to breed L25's or L24's... infact I dont know of anyone that owns one! So my guess is the price will either stay the same or higher. I dont think it will ever go down. I been trying my L200's and haven't been successful

Who knows what the price might go down. This is because like I said the more people breeding and selling there are the more the price will go down. It all depends on how many people are willing to breed it. In fact once I get good enough I will try.

I just ordered 10 L025 to try breeding them in about 10 years when they are big enough (they only grow about 1.5" per year). The price may stay about the same as today. If they were easy to breed, Asia would have done it by now. Also 7 pointers are one of the best looking plecos and will always be in high demand.
