Perhaps the larger catfish under the flat rock scared the smaller Gulper?

I guess if I lost my lei to the gulper, I'd freak out anytime I saw a big belly too. Sorry didnt mean to bring back any bad memories or anything.

Gulpers puff themselves up with water from time to time. I can never tell if it's water or a hapless fish. They're great fish I was hand feeding them 5 hours after I got them. Mind you they were shipped to me and had just spent 24 hours in packaging and transport. I guess they're not easily unnerved. Great fish one of my favorites and always out of my price range till recently.

LOL...Yeah, I get a scare from time to time when my gulpers do that too. The first thing I look for is my rtc/tsn.

I have one gulper that tends to do it more than the other. I've seen it happen enought times where now I know if he has a very round, smooth belly...it's just swelling. But if it's a bulky, odd shaped belly...it's time to do a head count.
