Don't they eat poop? That's how they got the name scat because scat means poop.

if u read above about 6-7 comments it specifically said "haters need not comment" I put that there especially for you

I've got three green scats in 1.004 sg water. 40g tank - for now they are 2". They can indeed go full marine and you'd probably save on salt that way because you can use Live Rock and a big skimmer - only 10 % per week change this way.

I plan to put mine in a much larger tank with my two green spotted puffers which can also go marine. See how they get on with my yellow tail blue damsel :-)

Have to edit my profile - swapped some, out some around and more tanks in use...

they rock

I picked up 4 as a rescue from a pet store.

I have them in my 180g sw I converted them to brackish when they went juvi and then moved them to full sw. I will see if I can track down some pics or maybe just take a few new ones :)

be very careful when working with lfs, they may say they will take them but they may not have the space for 9 scats when you go to drop them off or they may just flatout say no. Really, they have no obligation to take them later and will only do so if it still benefits them.

sorry to bring this post back up, but just got 4 of them from my family member. 3 are 4" and 1 7". they have been in freshwater from very small untill now. My question is will they continue to grown and live in freshwater or die?

If you are interested in keeping them healthy for longer, it would be best to slowly raise them to marine conditions, by raising the Specific gravity (measured with a hydrometer) by .002/week. Forcing BW fish (or in this case--as adults, scats belong in SW) in FW long-term, will eventually compromise their immune system, causing disease & shorter lifespans. I have seen a lot of scats in FW developing columnaris, which is little white, cottony balls of fungus all over their body. Keep in mind, many scat species can grow as large as a dinner plate, are huge garbage cans & poop tons, so you'll be looking for ~50g ea.
